Using Data to Improve the Oral Health of Older Adults

Oral Health Ohio (OHO) has received funding from the DentaQuest Partnership to conduct a Basic Screening Survey (BSS) of Older Adults in Ohio.

The BSS is a tool used to assist state and local public health agencies to monitor the burden of oral disease in order to reduce morbidity and mortality and to improve health. This is the first BSS conducted on older adults in Ohio and the data collected will be used to influence policy and advocate for program development for older adults.

We are in the sample design and methodology phase of this study. The BSS will be a hybrid study of the oral health of older adults living in the community and nursing home residents. OHO will issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) to implement the BSS when ready for implementation.
