Recognizing that racial disparities are a barrier to achieving oral health equity, Oral Health Ohio and HealthPath Foundation (OHO’s fiscal agent) staff participated in racial equity training through the Racial Equity Institute in May 2018. The training included the Groundwater Presentation and Phase 1 Training. The Oral Health Ohio Board will receive the training in 2019.
The three-hour Groundwater presentation uses stories and data to present a perspective on racism that is fundamentally structural in nature and examines the characteristics of modern-day racial inequity. Phase 1 Training is a two-day process that helps to provide talking points, historical factors and an organizational definition of racism.
Oral health equity is the core of the coalition’s work.
